Balasore Law College, Balasore is one of the oldest private law college in Odisha imparting legal education since 1978. I have joined Balasore Law College as lecturer in the year 1995 and as principal in the year 2011. This premier institution is fulfilling the needs of the students of North Odisha and neighbouring states. The institution has highly qualified faculty, efficient non-teaching staff and well equipped library to fulfill the needs of students. The fee structure of the college is very moderate. From the academic session 2017-18 Five Years Integrated LL.B. (Hons.) Course will be started with the help and support of Fakir Mohan University. P.G. Dept. of Law (LL.M.) of Fakir Mohan University is also continuing in this institution from the session 2002-03. This esteemed institution is facing lots of challenges and fulfilling all it’s promises and obligation with the help of the dynamic Governing Body of the college and the University. Our vision is to make this institution one of the leading legal education centre of Odisha.
Balasore Law College, Balasore is one of the oldest private law college in Odisha The Establishment of “Balasore Law College” dates back to the year 1978 and was the first Private Law College under Utkal University and second in the state of Odisha. The college was affiliated to the Utkal University, Odisha in the year 1979. It remained permanently affiliated to Utkal University till 1999. The College is permanently recognized by Govt. of Odisha and permanently approved by Bar Council of India, New Delhi. The College has already been included u/s 2(f) & 12(b) of UGC Act. 1956 and is eligible to receive grants under various UGC schemes. In the year 1999 Fakir Mohan University was established. Accordingly this college is now permanently affiliated to Fakir Mohan University, Vyasa Vihar, Balasore, Odisha.
The college functions in it’s own building at O.T. Road, Balasore. The primary objective of this Institution is not only to impart legal education but also to create avenues for spread of legal knowledge among citizens and also to create legal awareness among the weaker and vulnerable sections of the society. In the course of time this institution has earned name and fame for itself and it has been the cradle for judges, Ministers, Legislators, Lawyers of eminence, Executives, Corporate personnel and social activists of yesterdays and today. A student of this Institution automatically becomes a proud successor of this glorious heritage. All efforts of this Institution is to make its students to reach the height of professional excellence.
From academic session 2002-03, F.M. University has introduced LL.M. Course under self-financing scheme as per the direction and requirement of Bar Council of India. The classes of the LL.M. course are being conducted by Balasore Law College since 2002-2003. The teaching and non-teaching staff of Balasore Law College are engaged to run the course. The LL.M. students of F.M. University are given all the facilities as students of this college. The students passed out from the college are successfully practicing law all over India. Some of them are in Judiciary and some of them are also holding different legal posts under central as well as state Government. The existence and continuation of the college is highly essential to fulfill the legal and education needs of the people of Balasore and to create self employment.
Balasore Law College is located at O.T. Road, Balasore (Near Ori Plast). It is 200Kms. from the state capital Bhubaneswar and about 250 kms. from Kolkata. It is well connected with other parts of the state and the country with a roadways and railways. The college is 3kms. from the National Highway No. 5 and 2kms. from the Balasore Railway station.
The climate of Balasore town is moderate throughout the year due to its proximity to the Bay of Bengal i.e. Chandipur.
The College aims at providing quality legal education to the students to face the challenges of life. Besides legal education moral, ethical and cultural education are also imparted to the students to make them fit for Bar and Bench and to serve the country.
With a view to make the college as one of the standard legal institution in the state, the college envisions to open more courses like LL.M., 5 Years Integrated Law, PG department in various law subjects. To make them effective the college is developing it’s existing infrastructure. It envisions to make courses more participating and career oriented. The College is constantly touching University and Govt. of Odisha to make it a Constituent Law College of the University, which will directly help the students in getting quality education.
